Prof. Dr. Georg G. Iggers received the Officers Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany from the hands of Consul General Dr. Hans-Jürgen Heimsoeth on October 15, 2007. The ceremony took place at State University New York, Buffalo. “Today we have come together to honor one the most renowned historians and scholars in the United States of German origin,” Consul General Heimsoeth said in his address, ”a man who has not only devoted his life to history and scholarship, but who has also gained global esteem for his vital commitment to international understanding and sedulous effort to expand the cultural exchange between Germany and America. No German born historian on this side of the Atlantic has deserved this decoration more than Georg Iggers.”

Iota Chapter was charted in 1920 at Shaw University, Raleigh, NC. Brother Jesse W. Lewis was one of their charter members.
SCHOLARSHIP, MANHOOD, AND SOCIABILITY are the ostentious (I cannot find this word in dictionary) qualities to which the members devote themselves.
